Funk YU
Directed by Franko Dujmić, documentary, music, 81 min, eng subtitles, 15+ Written by Franko Dujmić, Croatia, Montenegro 2024
Franko is a vinyl collector in search of the only record still missing from his collection: the Ulica Jorgovana/Zlatokosa single by Darko Domijan, one of the finest examples of Yugoslav funk. His pursuit leads him to different corners of former Yugoslavia (Belgrade, Ljubljana, Podgorica, Rijeka, Skopje, and Zagreb) where he meets fellow collectors and music lovers — a bunch of colourful characters. A feel-good film that is at the same time an ode to collectors and record diggers and a monument of sorts to vinyl. Combining a pinch of humour with a dash of nostalgia and a nice portion of good music, Franko Dujmić delivers the recipe for an entertaining and witty film that offers viewers curious insights into the art of crate digging, collecting and DJing. Current and future vinyl lovers: this film is for you!
