After having spent 15 years in Belgium, Peer Baierlein decided to move back to Germany in 2012. He gave up his Belgian quartet and wanted to start with something new. As he was born in Stuttgart and also spent his youth there, Peer decided to ask some of the finest musicians of this area to join him. Ull Möck (piano), Jan Dittmann (double bass) and Matthias Daneck (drums) belong to the new generation of jazz players who are swinging into the 21st century with music that knows no prejudice, and which adheres to tradition while at the same time desires to express an individual creativity. The quartet ventures into unknown ground and follows unexplored paths.
Music which readily allows itself to be called jazz, but which also stands out through its open-mindedness to other music styles, yet, all the while marked by authenticity and carefree creativity.
Playing without pretention and working well together, the four musicians continue to evolve with their own repertoire and sound – giving them an unmistakable identity. The taste, the swing and the drive with which this group creates space, leaves the listener with a wonderful feeling.

Peer Baierlein
started his professional studies at the early age of 16 at the ‘Musikhochschule’ in Cologne/Germany with Prof. Malte Burba. He first became a classical trumpet teacher before beginning his studies as an orchestra musician (also in Cologne) and with Arno Lange at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. In 1996, he moved to Leuven in Belgium to study with his favourite jazz-trumpet player, Bert Joris at the Lemmensinstituut. Upon completion of his education, he moved for a year to New York City in 2000, to take lessons and to play his instrument abroad. He then came back to Belgium, where he finished his studies for jazz trumpet and -after that- specialised as ‘lead-trumpet’, also at the Lemmensinstituut. Between 2004 and 2006, Peer Baierlein has been studying classical composition with Piet Swerts. He has completed his studies and followed a special education for composing film music with a.o. Denis Pousseur, Victor Kissine and Jean-Luc Fafchamps in Mons/Belgium. From 2010 – 2013 he was a student for ‘new media’ at the ‘Hochschule für Musik und Theater’ in Hamburg. Baierlein played in the Brussels Jazz Orchestra and a.o. with Kurt Van Herck, Emil Mangelsdorff, Ron Van Rossum and Dré Pallemaerts. He could be heard on several famous Belgian jazz-festivals.

Besides being bandleader and composer with Matthias Daneck’s N.O.W. and “the instant loop generation” he plays in the Anne Czichowsky Quintett, Herbert Kramis Guadalcacin Septet, Ragna Schirmer’s Handel Project, the Böhm-Huber-Daneck-Trio. He worked with jazzgreats like Randy Brecker, Jerry Gonzales, Jimmy Woode or Bireli Lagrene and can be heard on more than 60 Jazz-CDs. He toured in many countries such as Africa (Tanzania and Madagascar), Finland (Jazzfestival Espoo), Ukraine (Jazzkarneval Odessa with Matthias Daneck’s N.O.W.), Croatia and Slovenia.

was born in Dortmund in 1992 and started playing double bass at the age of 17. His interest for jazz soon lead him to the local Jazzscene. Between 2012 and 2017 he studied double bass with Thomas Stabenow in Mannheim. During that time he played concerts with various bands and ensembles in the south of germany and performed as part of the Landesjugendjazzorchester Baden-Württemberg in India. Today Jan lives in Mannheim as a working musician and explores his role in jazzmusic even further in preperation for his master-studies. Since 2018 he is part of the South Quartet where he influences the bands sound with his playing-style and compositions.
