Close and Distant

Cartoon exhibition

In today’s highly technologically developed societies, the skills we need to survive have changed. Sport has become a mandatory way of maintaining good physical shape for the urbanized individual. At the same time doing sport is the norm for people of a certain social status. On the other hand physical labor on the field which was so widespread just 50 years ago and is still necessary for providing food, is now on its way to extinction. The energy needed to do manual labor has transformed in all sorts of sport activities and obsessions in the big city. Nevertheless we shouldn’t forget that around 70% of the human population still does manual agricultural labor to feed the world. In the series “Close and Distant” I’m trying to find the answers – with a pinch of humor – to questions affecting the different human beings, so close to each other but at the same time so different. The Homo sapiens individualists.

Are the tools we use what gives us a feeling of the standard of living we belong to? Is the way we use our energy defining our intellectual and spiritual growth?
