The Warsaw journalist and bon vivant, Sobański, leaves the capital to find and interview the author of bestselling guides. Although the writer himself is hiding his identity, some clues lead to the building in Silesia, a place full of original and unique individuals. The house in which the action takes place is filmed as if it were at the end of the world, or it were the whole world itself. Soon we discover that this magical enclosed reality is on the doorstep of World War II. Meanwhile, the residents enjoy the charms of life, following their dreams and passions. Good neighbours are still living under one roof: Poles, Germans, Silesians and Jews. Among them is the beautiful Rose, the object of male fantasy and female distaste, the eccentric botanist Tomasz, the mathematical genius Rufin working as an elevator operator, and the teenager Harald trying to break free from his intrusive mother. The marvellous moments spent with their neighbours tempt lightness and freedom, revealing a world to which they have not had access yet. Until one day, Rose disappears from the tenement house, leaving behind her admirers: lost– in an empty space, full of yearning and feelings that will change the lives of each and every one of them in the future.
