Land of the Gods is the latest feature film by the Serbian director Goran Paskaljević, whose previous films were critically acclaimed and shown at major film festivals around the globe. After a long exile, Rahul returns to his village in the Himalayas. This causes commotion amongst the villagers, who have never forgiven him for his past sins. He must face an isolated world full of old prejudices, gender inequalities and caste-based injustices, in which women have no right to choose their own destiny. Set in a remote Indian village in the northern state of Uttarakhand, also known as Dev Bhoomi (The Land of the Gods), surrounded by the snowy peaks of the Himalayas, Paskaljević's film is a visually impressive, poetic and intimate fable about the journey of a man who needs to face his past, offering an interesting look at the multi-faceted and complex society of India.
