Memories of Fear / Спомен за страха
Directed by Ivan Pavlov, comedy, drama, 82 min, 16+. Bulgaria 2017, written by Krassimir Kroumov
with Ivaylo Hristov, Ovanes Torosian, Milko Yovchev, Blagoy Blagoev
Memories of Fear, which took the Bulgarian Film Academy Awards by storm, winning seven major trophies (including Best Film, Best Director and Best Cinematography), is the fifth feature film by the acclaimed and established Bulgarian director Ivan Pavlov (Mass Miracle, Fate as a Rat). This omnibus film, intertwining the fates of several protagonists living in 1968, includes the story of a film director shooting his peculiar movie, who might actually be the director's alter-ego. Memories of Fear is a poetic, unconventional satire, capturing the grim atmosphere of the communist time in Bulgaria and underlining the impact of the regime on relationships between people through the stories of a few unique characters, all suspended in a timeless, nostalgic, black and white reality.
